The Circle Ride program, a program offered strictly to Cavalcade participants at Philmont Scout Ranch is an exhilarating horseback riding experience that offers participants a scenic journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Philmont’s backcountry. Hosted at camps like Cattle Headquareters and Ponil, the Circle Ride is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the cowboy spirit while exploring the ranch’s rugged trails.
During the Circle Ride, participants are paired with a horse suited to their experience level and are given a brief orientation on horseback riding basics, including safety, handling, and riding techniques. Once prepared, riders set out on a guided loop through the surrounding wilderness, led by experienced wranglers who ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
The ride offers stunning views of Philmont’s mountains, meadows, and forests, providing a unique perspective on the natural beauty of the area. Along the way, participants may learn about the history of ranching at Philmont, the role of horses in the American West, and the skills needed to care for and handle these magnificent animals.
